I am a strong believer in physical chaos makes for mental chaos. If the spaces that you hold so dearly and spend most of your time in are a mess, it has far-reaching effects. We will tackle a bathroom cubby makeover in this post to illustrate how simple it can be to remove chaos in our spaces. A space doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to function well. This can be obtained easily on any budget and any style. Everyone wants the spaces in their home to be pretty. What I have learned first hand is a functional space not only saves you precious time, you are not constantly searching for things, but it is also pivotal to your sanity and sense of peace. You can’t be the best for your loved ones if you are always feeling overwhelmed and defeated.
One space that can be a big headache is a bathroom, especially one that is short on storage. I tackled my master bath, and for literally less than $150 I conquered a space that has been hassling me for years. I am a little embarrassed to admit, I looked at this mess for that long before doing something about it, but we keep real here! (As always I have no problem airing my dirty secrets and sharing my hard-learned life lessons if it helps someone calm the chaos in their life.)
On to the project…..The area I organized is the only decent storage space I have in my bathroom, and it is the home to not just linens but anything and everything else you can imagine storing in a bathroom. I had my work cut out for me, but I am SO happy I finally did it!
Here is what I started with:
Here is what I did:
- bring a good size empty trash can into the space
- go through all of the contents and clear anything out that can be thrown away
- collect anything that needs a “home” elsewhere and sit aside (out of the area you are working in)
- group all similar items and identify how many storage containers you need
- go shopping! (personally my favorite part ♥)
- place everything back in the space accordingly
- find a home for the displaced items that no longer belong in your new space
Here is my finished product:
The purpose behind this makeover goes so much deeper than the cosmetic result you see above. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is, physical messes cause mental messes! I spent so much precious time battling that space that I could have spent doing something far more productive. And this girls time is way too valuable to be wasting it in the bathroom! The makeover was fast, like one day beginning to end fast. Now I have a space that works well with my daily routine and looks good on top of that!
Quick + Inexpensive + Time Saving = Happy Mama! ♥
